This is one of those walls where graffiti is still vandalism, but it's hidden at the back of an apartment block where no one can see it. Sort of "street art for chickens". I hope they practice some more before spraying somewhere more obvious, but I like the line!

I can only wonder where it started, the fascination for Mediterranean Blues and crisp whites that seem so out of place in our coastline, yet have been so pervasive that they have become almost a vernacular in some places. The canvas awning seems to be designer-speak for "I hope this'll make the building look better", but they rarely do, and they quickly fade and tear.

"Tropicana" on the other hand conjures up deep greens, dark shadows and coco-nut palms in my mind. Perhaps I'm getting too old to understand!

Resort Ambience!

Sometimes I wonder how bad you have to be to live life behind bars.

But by golly they don't make a very pleasant resort environment either. "Alex" has to be among the safest places on earth to live, one wonders what these people have done to deserve their life sentence!

Hot Cross Buns

Hot Cross Buns on Good Friday.

Posted a day late, because yesterday's pic had been uploaded well before I had taken the picture, but perhaps reflective on current commercialism of a Christian tradition, where we find this traditional and very symbolic Good Friday fare on sale in shops and bakeries for at least a month leading up to Easter, and a week or two after it.

The buns of my childhood had crosses slashed across their tops before baking, making a much more macabre (and symbolic) statement than the modern versions.

The building signage is as diverse as the architecture, which in turn is a diverse as the attitude to maintenance. In a town where buildings are rarely more than 20 years old, some age gracefully, some disgracefully.

Others just sit awaiting redevelopment.

A Neighbour

It may seem strange to kick off a photo blog notionally about a town with a couple of election posters and pelican, but they are just as important a part of where we live, typos and all, as the surf, the beaches and the coffee shops.

I am not sure how long it will take to convey a feeling for the fabric of the place, but initially I don't see too much point in replicating tourist postcards.

Think of it as a quilt in progress, come back often and enjoy the ride!

Only time will tell if he did it for the money and the glory, or if he will remain true to his beloved Noosa, and work immediately for succession!

Together Well Deliver

Today is the day.

No longer do we live in Maroochy Shire or Noosa or Caloundra City, we now live in the Sunshine Coast Region. No doubt one day it will become a City in name as well as character, but until then "well deliver" I suppose.

It's a little sad really, before he was Mayor of Maroochy, Joe was a greengrocer and he's not the favourite so there's a bit of snickering behind cupped hands, about him getting used to delivering again.

Tonight we'll know.
